Strong cities plan for the future.

Did you know the City of Converse does not have a Rainy Day Fund (savings) for unexpected expenses? It was quietly closed several years ago and that money was added to the General Fund that pays for all city operations. Instead, the city now has a few months of operating capital that is presented as a guard against these unexpected events.

In reality, that just means we have the same money to pay for both normal and unexpected expenditures. We still can’t handle a serious emergency. It’s also why we have slow growth, poor road maintenance, and a limited ability to add community amenities. You simply can’t spend the same dollar more than once.

Plan for Future Growth

We can’t grow the city this way and it will leave us vulnerable to growing communities around us. We need a plan to diversify and strengthen all our revenue sources to put in the best position to plan for the future.

That’s why I will do the following:

  • Restore the Rainy Day Fund
  • Be transparent with residents during the budgeting process
  • Publish a Strategic Alignment Scorecard so you’ll always know what we’re working on — and where we’re making progress
